The Faculty of Business and Economics was established in January 2001 as the University's tenth faculty, embracing the School of Business and the School of Economics and Finance. The Faculty represents the University's commitment to business and economics education.

The Faculty is committed to offering students a sound foundation in a variety of areas in business, economics and finance. It also encourages a well-rounded education. Each of the Faculty's programmes requires students to incorporate broadening and general studies courses which are of interest to students.

School of Business

The School of Business offers five undergraduate degrees: the BBA, BBA(Acc&Fin), BBA(IBGM), BBA(IS) and BBA(Law). The first three programmes are normally three years in duration and are designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the key aspects of the field of management. In addition, the programmes enable students to view Asia from both a regional and an international perspective. The BBA(IBGM) programme is an interdisciplinary programme in international business and global management. The programme includes: an overseas exchange, an international field trip/internship and a team project with students partnered with other students abroad. The BBA(IS) and BBA(Law) programmes are offered in collaboration with other departments, and students are able to pursue two degrees over four years for BBA(IS) and five years for BBA(Law). Students only need to obtain the first degree for admission to the fourth year of study which leads to the second degree. The fourth year of the BBA(IS) programme and the fourth and fifth years of the BBA(Law) programme are operated on a self-financing basis, and students are therefore required to pay more than the standard undergraduate tuition fees. Students enrolled in these optional years of study may apply for financial assistance under the Government Non-means-tested Loan Scheme, subject to the prevailing regulations of the Scheme.

By focusing on skills and concepts that are relevant to regional needs, programmes within the School of Business prepare students for leadership in the rapidly evolving business landscape of the Asian-Pacific Region. The programmes combine high-calibre training with essential support networks from the business community. Vital to the programmes' mission is that students understand Asia's role within a global context.

School of Economics and Finance

The School of Economics and Finance offers three undergraduate degrees: the BEcon, BEcon&Fin and BSc(QFin). Each programme combines a theoretical understanding of economics and finance with practical applications by using examples from both Hong Kong and the region. Students are given considerable latitude to tailor a programme that suits their particular academic and professional interests.

As the leading provider of undergraduate education in economics and finance in the region, the School of Economics and Finance is committed to the training of quality graduates in these fields. The programmes prepare students to either excel in their careers or to pursue further academic studies.
