ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
The BEcon and BEcon&Fin programmes share the same JUPAS code. Upon admission to the University, students are required to enroll in one of these programmes.
The BEcon programme trains students in economic theory, statistical tools, the application of theory to solve practical economic problems in trade, banking, the labour market, and the evaluation of the regional economic performances of China, Hong Kong and other economies.
BEcon students are required to take a total of 180 credits of courses. In the first year, students are required to take four compulsory introductory courses in economics, elementary statistics and mathematics. Students with different mathematical backgrounds are subject to different course requirements. In the subsequent years, students should take 10 (minimum) to 16 (maximum) courses offered by the School of Economics and Finance, three of which are compulsory. This allows students a high degree of flexibility in planning their future career specialisation.
The BEcon&Fin programme is designed to meet the interests of students who are seeking a balanced study of both economics and finance. While the BEcon programme is more specialised, there is also more room for students to gain exposure to business, social sciences and science subjects.
BEcon&Fin students are required to complete a total of 180 credits of courses. In the first year, students are required to take six compulsory courses. In the subsequent years, students should take 14 (minimum) to 16 (maximum) courses offered by the School of Economics and Finance, five of which are compulsory.
