PROGRAMME AIMS AND FEATURES
BENG(LESCM) focuses on globalisation and information management tools which integrate procurement, operations, and logistics from raw materials to customer satisfaction. This programme aims at developing students' ability to acquire the relevant skills for the global business environment, together with an integrated view towards problem solving in logistics and supply chain management. Students will be trained to work not only as good team players, but also to acquire the necessary entrepreneurial skills to identify potential opportunities for organisations. Graduates of this programme are future leaders with far-sighted vision.
Students are expected to be achievement-oriented, and are trained to have a keen awareness of career growth, challenges, opportunities, and initiative. The curriculum emphasizes a holistic education that brings together professional knowledge and entrepreneurial skills. The main areas of expertise developed in this curriculum are as follows:
| (1) | Logistics skills - Market analysis, collaborative relationships, sourcing decisions, change management, planning and organisational skills; |
| (2) | Systems engineering - Cost analysis, product and design knowledge, computer literacy, supplier selection, production planning and inventory control; and |
| (3) | Interpersonal skills - Written and oral communication, analytical skills, group dynamics, problem solving, and international and cultural awareness. |
Subject to approval, students may opt to minor in Business, Economics or Finance.
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
BENG(LESCM) is accredited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Graduates can, with proper training and working experience, obtain the status of Registered Professional Engineer. This professional status is recognised through the Washington Accord by the signatories of engineering organisations in the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
In addition, graduates will satisfy the academic requirement for Chartered Membership of the Institute of Logistics and Transport.
CAREER PROSPECTS
Logistics engineering and supply chain management have become increasingly important aspects of company management in recent years, and many local and international enterprises are seeking new graduates to help them meet existing global challenges. The rise of new organisations such as virtual corporations will also broaden the strengths for supply chain management from products to core competencies. In recent years, globalisation has sharply increased the need for Logistics and Supply Chain professionals who lead in this ever-changing technology, who seek a variety of experiences, and who are committed to lifelong learning. The importance of logistics was emphasized in the Second and Final Reports of the Chief Executive's Commission on Innovation and Technology, which identifies the need for Hong Kong to develop its role as a logistics hub and centre for supply chain management.
Graduates from BENG(LESCM) will enjoy career opportunities of great breadth and depth, and will assume very important responsibilities. Graduates will be excellent assets to e-commerce organisations, manufacturing corporations, consultancy firms, communication companies, public utility organisations, and materials handling centers such as railway corporations and terminal organisations. Graduates will also be equipped with the competence and confidence to contribute to the operation of the international airport, the continued expansion of the container terminals and their infrastructure, and the development of e-commerce services.
