Chiu Kwun Sau, Charles BSS(Govt&Laws) Year 1
As a prospective undergraduate student I had no hesitation in making the University of Hong Kong my first choice. I believed that HKU, as an English-speaking university, would provide me with not only the best education but also an international vision. The double degree programme in Government and Laws is unique in Hong Kong. Unlike other professional programmes, which would perhaps confine one's career path, the double major in politics and law is a perfect combination for a much greater variety of career opportunities. I am also delighted to find out that HKU values students' opinion. There is a staff-student consultative committee in my Faculty. Regular meetings are held to collect students' opinions on the courses and the curriculum. Problem-based learning is also practised in most of the courses. Real-life situations are given to us as 'problems'. Through study and presentations our understanding of textbook theories as well as current issues has been deepened. Education at HKU also takes place outside the classroom. A great variety of broadening courses and general education programmes are available. They range from arts and culture to science and technology. The whole-person education gives us great opportunities to broaden our horizons. It is indeed my pleasure to be a member of the University and its Government and Laws programme.
