Chan Kwun Wai MBBS Year 2
I am one of the first batch of students admitted through the EAS scheme, and to me, this scheme provides a great opportunity for talented and ambitious students to explore university life earlier. The scheme also makes our education more flexible and offers me an option to challenge myself and learn in a faster pace. Through the scheme, I also made friends with many other students with high calibre and aspiration.
At the beginning, I was worried that it would be very difficult for an S6 student to adapt to university life. However, after studying for more than 1 year at HKU, I find those worries are really unnecessary and that university life is very interesting and enriching. The Summer Broadening programmes are very helpful and stimulating to me in the bridging process. U-mates are unexpectedly friendly and willing to help. Moreover, HKU offers lots of different programmes, exposure and opportunities to its students. There are scholarships, exchange programmes, leadership programmes, language courses, general education courses, lectures and seminars which are available to all students. I have the opportunities to try many different things and they help my personal development. The Hall life in HKU is also very exciting. I live in Starr Hall, a hall with many international students. I make friends with students of different cultural backgrounds. This makes me more aware of and sensitive to cultural differences and I also learn a lot about different cultures. The Hall life really provides me with experiences that go beyond any university curriculum.
Finally, I can say that I am in no doubt that this scheme and the HKU life are helping me to develop myself in broader perspective, crave for challenges, and strive for excellence.
