What is Student Connect?
Since the academic year 1998-99, the University has introduced the Student Connect which takes full advantage of IT. It is an on-line system that provides real-time information regarding students' registration, personal particulars, courses enrolment, and examination timetables, and more. Once the students are in the system, they can navigate through a series of screens to find the information they need. Students are able to update their information whenever necessary on the Student Connect system without the need to fill and or submit any paper forms.
The Academic Services will issue eligible students a randomly generated password for their Student Connect account. This account name (initially the student university number) and password will be required for access to the Student Connect system.
How to obtain Student Connect account name and password?
New undergraduate students receive their Student Connect account name and password after they have accepted the offer of admission.
New postgraduate students receive their Student Connect account name and password after they have attended the photograph session for their student registration cards.
What makes the Student Connect account secure?
When your account name and password are entered, the password will not show on the computer screen. This is by design so that it never appears and cannot be viewed by others.
What if I forget my password?
If students forget or lose their password, they will be required to come to the Academic Services Enquiry Office in person during regular business hours and obtain a re-print for their password. A picture ID with HKID card number or University number will be required to obtain the re-print. There are no exceptions. Under no circumstances can a student obtain their password over the phone.
Students can also e-mail the Academic Services (connect@hku.hk) from their HKU assigned e-mail account with their name, ID number, curriculum, to request that we check their password for them. Reply will be sent to students via the e-mail account on host hkusua.hku.hk issued by the Computer Centre and under no circumstances can a student obtain their password over the phone.
Confidentiality of the password
The password must be kept confidential and never provided to another student. Any student user who willfully provides his or her password to another may be denied access privileges to the Student Connect. Never write your password where others can view it. Your password should be treated with the same importance as your PIN for an ATM (Automated Teller Machine).
How to change the password?
Students can change their password at anytime and is encouraged to do so by using the on-line facility available in the Student Connect. Click on Change PIN and you will be prompted to enter information to make the change. Be careful when selecting a password. It should be one that is easily remembered but not easily identified by someone else. Birth dates should not be used. Your original randomly generated password is a 6-digit number/letter.
