The work of Academic Services is continuously being reviewed and streamlined for greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness through the application of labour-saving technology. Computer programmes are in place to deal with massive and complex task of examinations and lecture-rooms timetabling. Interactive Voice Response System is being installed to handle routine enquiries on the telephone. CD-ROMs and microfilms are used to tackle the issue of building up archives of graduates.

Students admission, registration and database; and student welfare
One principal objective of Academic Services is to provide efficient and effective services to students. The process of service starts with the production of information and application materials for potential applicants for admission to undergraduate programmes. It continues with overseeing admissions, registration, course enrolment, degree examinations, issue of various exit documents (transcripts, degree diplomas, and certificates etc.), management of lecture rooms, a comprehensive database of students in all programmes and at all levels, and awards (both scholarships and bursaries) for students. Academic Services also supports those committees responsible for student welfare and facilities, including the Committee on Halls, Careers Advisory Board, and Committee on Catering, and arranges for the execution of the decisions made by these committees.

Committee Work
The list of committees secretaried by administrators in Academic Services is a good indicator of the services provided by Academic Services. The administrators in Academic Services serve more than 30 Senate and Council committees.

Teaching and Learning Quality Assurance
Aademic Services also provides support in the assurance and improvement of teaching and learning quality. The Office, for example, is responsible for making all the arrangements for the Teaching and Learning Quality Process Reviews conducted by the University Grants Committee. The Office also provides assistance to the Teaching Quality Committee in the management of the Teaching Development Grants.
