- Proper sanitation: Its a seemingly mundane thing that most people in the developed world take for granted. But at least 2.6 billion people some 41 percent of the global population - do not have access to latrines or any sort of basic sanitation facilities. As a result millions suffer from a wide range of preventable illnesses, such as diarrhoea, which claim thousands of lives each day, primarily young children.

- Prizes: 3 winners will receive a cash cheque of $8,000 and a trophy
- Target entrant: Undergraduate, from year 1 to final year
- Format of submission: Entrants are required to submit an innovative idea on sustainable building design. The submission should contain 500 - 1000 words to describe the sustainable idea. It may include other form of information such as graph, PowerPoint, photos, data or other information which considered as important for assessment, understanding and supporting.
- The competition allows groups to enroll, but the groups should not bear the name of a society, e.g. "Engineering Society", because this will be regarded as being unfair to others who enroll as individuals. The group size is limited to a max. of 3 students. The group should demonstrate how the students collaborate with team spirit to come up with the concept. Please submit with name of student or group.
- There is no limitation on number of applications for the competition from each university.
- The submission can be e-mail to Mr. Barry Lee (b.khlee@gmail.com). The idea should be innovative and more details of assessment will be provided after consolidation with competition organizing members.
- The assessment will base on the following items: - Creativity (30%); Practicality in application(30%); Contribution to sustainable development (40%)
- The HKIE Building Services Division Annual dinner will be on 29 May 2007. We would have video clips(about 5 minutes) production in early April to mid May for the concept of winners. The HKIE Building Services Division Annual dinner will be on 29 May 2007. Winners will be invited to attend the annual dinner and received the prize.
