Where did the 1996 B.Sc. in Speech and Hearing Sciences graduates go?

I.Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about B.Sc. (Sp. & Hear. Sc.) graduates : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Out of 14 B.Sc. (Sp. & Hear. Sc.) graduates, 12 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 86%. Of these, 92% were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 8.3% (or 1 graduate) went on for further studies. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

The graduate who took up further studies was enrolled on a diploma course in Science in a local tertiary institution.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

All the graduates were able to secure employment before the end of September 1996. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

55% of the B.Sc. (Sp. & Hear. Sc.) graduates were employed in community, social & persoanl services, followed by 36% in the education sector and 9% in the civil service.

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

In general, the average income of 1996 B.Sc. (Sp. & Hear. Sc.) graduates was higher than that of their predecessors in the previous year. (Table 4)

VII.Number of Full-Time Job Offers

36% of the graduates had more than one job offer. On average, each graduate received 1.9 job offers, compared with 2.2 last year. (Figure 4)
