IntroductionThe information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about B.Sc. (Computer Science) graduates : -
II. Employment Situation in 1997
Out of 78 B.Sc. (Computer Science) graduates, 63 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 81%. Of these, 95% (or 60 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. Another 4.8% (or 3 graduates) went on for further studies. Nil unemployment was reported. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies
Three graduates pursued postgraduate studies in the same discipline as their first degree. They took up a M.Phil. programme in local tertiary institutions. (Tables 2 & 3)

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment
Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 88% secured their first job offer before the end of July. The percentage increased to 100% by the end of October. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors
Most (88% or 53 graduates) of the B.Sc. (Computer Science) graduates
were employed in commerce and industry, followed by 8.3% (or 5 graduates) in civil
service. The remaining 3.3% (or 2 graduates) joined the community, social and personal
services. (Figures 2 & 3) VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income The remuneration received by the 1997 B.Sc. (Computer Science)
graduates is shown in Table 4.

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers
68% of the graduates in full-time employment had more than one job offer. 27% reported having received three or more job offers. On average, each graduate received 2.3 job offers, compared with 2.5 last year. (Figure 4)
