Where did the 1997 B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates : -

 

II. Employment Situation in 1997

Out of 55 B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates, 46 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 84%. Of these, 98% (or 45 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. Nil unemployment was reported. (Table 1)

III. Time Taken to Secure Employment

Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 80% were able to secure their first job offer before the end of June. The figure increased to 100% by the end of September. (Figure 1)

IV. Employment Sectors

Most (76% or 34 graduates) of the B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates were employed in commerce and industry . The remaining 24% (or 11 graduates) joined the civil service. (Figures 2 & 3)

The remuneration received by the 1997 B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates is shown in Table 4.

VI. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

Of those in full-time employment, 71% of the graduates had more than one job offer. 49% reported having received three or more job offers. On average, each graduate received 2.7 job offers, compared with 2.8 last year. (Figure 4)
