I. Introduction
The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about LL.B. graduates : -
II. Employment Situation in 1997
Out of 144 LL.B. graduates, 122 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 85%. Of these, 4.9% (or 6 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 94% (or 115 graduates) went on for further studies. Another 0.8% (or 1 graduates) was still looking for full-time employment at the time of the survey in December 1997. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies
109 graduates pursued postgraduate studies in the same discipline as their first degree. Two graduates studied accounting and one graduate took up a Master (coursework) programme in social work. Of these, 109 graduates were enrolled in local tertiary institutions while 1 graduate went to U.K. Table 2 shows the academic programmes that LL.B. graduates were engaged in and Table 3 shows the source of finance.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment
Among those who were in full-time employment, 83% secured their first job offer before the end of September. The percentage increased to 100% by the end of November. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors
Most (83% or 5 graduates) of the LL.B. graduates were employed in commerce and industry. The remaining 17% (or 1 graduate) joined the civil service. (Figures 2 & 3)


VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income
The remuneration received by the 1997 LL.B. graduates is shown in Table 4.

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers
50% of the graduates in full-time employment had more than one job offer.. 33% reported having received three or four job offers. On average, the graduates received 2.0 job offers, compared with 1.5 last year. (Figure 4)
