Where did the 1996 M.B.,B.S. graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about 1996 M.B.,B.S. graduates who had finished their internships in 1997: -

 

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Out of 153 M.B.,B.S. graduates, 119 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 78%. All the graduates were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. Nil unemployment was reported. (Table 1)

III. Time Taken to Secure Employment

98% of the M.B.,B.S. graduates were able to secure their first job offer before the end of July. The percentage increased to 100% after December 1997. (Figure 1)

IV. Employment Sectors

Most (82% or 97 graduates) of the M.B.,B.S. graduates were employed by the Hospital Authority, followed by 16% (or 19 graduates) in the Department of Health. The remaining 2.4% (or 3 graduates) worked in private hospitals/clinics. (Figures 2 & 3)

The remuneration received by 1996 M.B.,B.S. graduates is shown in Table 2.
