This is the FIRST forum for all alumni to meet the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, on HKU's direction to a top international university.

The Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) announced a blueprint on November 27, 2002 for the further development of higher education in Hong Kong based on the final recommendations of the University Grants Committee (UGC) following the public consultation on Lord Sutherland's report.

The blueprint underlines several areas which will have impact on HKU's development such as: Role differentiation among all tertiary institutions; Student places and mobility; Programme funding especially in Taught Postgraduate and Sub-degree programmes; University governance...

The forum will aim to serve as a start-off to a process in reviewing the position of HKU in this new environment. It is hoped that it will arouse interest among alumni for more in-depth debates later.

The forum is organised by the "Working Group on Positioning HKU in the New Higher Education Environment" of Convocation.
