| Hong Kong PhD Fellowships |
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPF) is established by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) which aims at recruiting the best and brightest students of any country of origin and ethnic background to pursue PhD study in Hong Kong's institutions. The scheme is open for applications from September 1 - December 1, 2011. Awardees of this Fellowship scheme will be provided with a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (~US$2,600) and travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~US$1,300) per year to a maximum period of three years.
The University of Hong Kong Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine is now inviting high calibre students, who are planning to engage in full-time PhD studies, to apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship scheme with HKU as their first priority institution. While academic excellence is of prime consideration, the following criteria will also be taken into consideration:
- research ability and potential;
- communication and interpersonal skills; and
- leadership abilities.

HKU has been named, by the Quacquarelli Symonds Asian University Rankings, the best university in the whole of Asia in 2009 and 2010. Being the largest faculty in the University, the Medical Faculty has more than 260 full-time teaching staff, around 610 research staff and 700 research postgraduate students. HKU University Postgraduate Fellowships (UPF)
HKU University Postgraduate Fellowships are available for selected full-time PhD candidates with excellent academic record. The Fellowship is worth HK$70,000 (~US$9,000), which is awarded on top of the Postgraduate Studentship (see below).HKU Postgradute Studenship (PGS)
Full-time MPhil and PhD students who hold a first degree with second-class honours first division (or equivalent) or above are normally considered eligible to receive a Postgraduate Studentship during the normative study period. Candidates' results in Master's degrees will also be considered. The basic level of studentship is HK$13,600 (~US$1,740) per month (subject to revision).Scholarships and conference/travel grants
The University administers a number of scholarships that are awarded to postgraduate students for outstanding academic achievements. MPhil and PhD students are also eligible for conference and/or travel grants.
