A 2-day International Symposium on "Hong
Kong's Health System: Reflections, Perspectives and Visions" will be organized by
the Medical and Health Research Network (MHRN) of the University
of Hong Kong to celebrate a book launch of the same name, and to
explore, discuss and debate various policy options on the eve of
the 2006 health care reform exercise in Hong Kong.
The major objective of the International Symposium is to provide
an evidence-based platform for the open exchange of experience
and views on how best to achieve a sustainable, equitable and efficient
health care system for better population health in Hong Kong. The
Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food has been invited to deliver
the opening keynote and world leaders in health system change and
development are scheduled to deliver plenary addresses for each
of the four main themes as follows:
-
Forces of health system change
-
Organizing and managing health
care
-
Improving quality of care
-
Financing
health care
Following each plenary, a panel
of local experts will make a short presentation to contextualize
the thematic content and to outline their views, followed by an
interactive forum discussion open to the floor.
The conference aims to provide an opportunity for students, academics,
health care professionals, government officials, politicians,
and the general public to better understand the context of Hong
Kong's health care system and the need for change.
