Abstract:
Occupational health surveillance (OHS) is one of the important measures to protect worker’s health. Since 1950s, medical examination had been performed on workers who were exposed to occupational hazardous substances in China, mainly in state-owner enterprises. While the Law on Prevention and Control of Occupational Diseases was promulgated in this early century, regulations related to OHS (such as Decree on Management of Occupational Health Surveillance and Technical Guidelines on Occupational Health Surveillance) were subsequently issued, and the national notification and report system on occupational diseases were eventually established in 1986. At present, about 3 million workers have taken medical examination each year and the coverage of OHS is about 20%. The OHS in China is still facing many problems due to its economic structure and employment policy reform.

In this seminar, Professor Li will introduce the relative regulations on occupational health surveillance in China, especially about the new issue of The Technical Guidelines on Occupational Health Surveillance. He will also talk about the current situation and the problems of occupational health surveillance as well as to discuss how to improve the OHS in China.
