Abstract:
Depression in children and adolescents is a serious disorder that
causes substantial morbidity and mortality. Long-term consequences
of paediatric depression include substance abuse and dependence,
recurrent mood and other psychiatric disorders, and suicide attempts.
Identifying and treating these youth is essential to improve
outcome. This presentation will present an update on diagnosis
and treatment interventions of paediatric depression. The recent
concerns about antidepressants and suicidal behaviours in the
US population will also be reviewed from a public health perspective.
