The 4th of December, fifteen senior research scholars, heads of 15 French Doctoral Departments, will come to our city to meet master students who are eager to carry out a PhD abroad.
On this occasion, the French Consulate General & Campus France organize an event entitled as "Doctoral Studies With France" with the support of The Croucher Foundation.
Individual interviews will be held for PhD candidates to present their research projects.
Possibilities of scholarships will also be showcased by these Doctoral Departments and the Croucher Foundation.
CampusFrance will answer your queries regarding the French eductional system.
For event registration, you need to provide the following document to phdfrance@consulfrance-hongkong.org:

>> Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2010/11: there is still time to apply for RGC PhD fellowships and pursue a PhD degree programmes in Hong Kong's institutions!
- Hong Research Grant Council, 2010/11 Academic Year -
The Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) has released the criteria of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme which aims to attract the outstanding students in the world to pursue their PhD degree programmes in Hong Kong's institutions including the University of Hong Kong. 135 PhD Fellowships will be awarded for the 2010/11 academic year.
The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for a period of three years.
For awardees who need more than three years to complete the PhD degree, additional support may be provided by the chosen institutions. For details, please contact the institutions concerned directly.
Registration process is entirely online and the deadline is the 1st December 2009.

The Pasteur Lecture series held on September 18, 2009 hosted the seminars of three Prinicpal Investigators from Institut Pasteur: Dr Mathieu Picardeau (Department of Microbiology), Dr Spencer L. Shorte (Department of Cell Biology and Infection) and Dr Mustapha Si-Tahar (Department of Infection and Epidemiology).
Students and post-doctoral fellows wishing to perform research work at Institut Pasteur are also encouraged to search the Pasteur website to identify additional host laboratories of interest. Prospective candidates are invited to contact Anne Li to prepare the Croucher application (please check the Croucher site for eligibility criteria).

Aim of the course:
The main objectives of the course are to familiarize young scientists (Biologists/Computer Scientists/Mathematicians) with bioinformatics and genome data analysis skills and to encourage multi-disciplinarity by introducing:
- advanced fundamental algorithms in bioinformatics,
- their application in genome analyses,
- and recent knowledge acquired from genomes studies and perspectives.
The course is aimed for motivated Ph.D and Post-doctoral students, as well as young assistant professors and junior scientists in Public Institutions particularly from Asia, Africa and South Ameria, with background in Mathematics, Statistics, Biology or Computing, who are involved in Bioinformatics and Genomes studies.

- Victor Segalen French International School Scientific workshop, March 18, 2009, HKU-Pasteur Research Centre -
On March 18, students of the "seconde" class visited HKU-Pasteur Research Centre. Dr Roberto Bruzzone, HKU-PRC's CEO, presented the Centre's history, mission, research and teaching activities. He also guided the students during their tour of the laboratory. Ms Isabelle Dutry, MPhil student introduced good laboratory practice in biosafety level 2 facilities and Dr François Kien presented our imaging facility and how to vizualise virus-host interactions. This visit stimulated students' curiosity with lots of questions about biology, virology and science careers.
- Victor Segalen French International School studentship, March 2-6, 2009, HKU-Pasteur Research Centre -
HKU-Pasteur Research Centre welcomed Mr Damien Bobillier and Mr Augustin Lalo, French students from the French International School for a one-week studentship (March 2-6). They interacted closely with their tutors and the HKU-PRC's staff and discovered various aspects of virology. |
