Financial Assistance

Postgraduate Studentships are allocated by the University Grants Committee (UGC) through the University to provide financial assistance to selected research postgraduates.

Who is eligible
The purpose of Postgraduate Studentships is to provide selected students with financial assistance in the form of a scholarship to study full-time for the degrees of MPhil, SJD or PhD during the prescribed periods of study. Only full-time research postgraduate students who do not undertake any employment, full-time or part-time, are eligible to apply.

How to apply
Applicants may indicate their wish to apply for financial assistance in the application form. Applying for studentships will NOT affect the chance of admission.

Duties and responsibilities
Postgraduate Studentship holder may be required to undertake, under supervision, duties as prescribed by the Faculty. The amount of such work shall not exceed 100 hours each year. The undertaking of this work forms a part of the Studentship contract covered by the value of the Studentship, and no extra payment for these hours of work may be made to a Studentship holder.

Criteria of award
Application for Postgraduate Studentship is very competitive and is normally granted to selected students with a Bachelor's degree in upper second class division.

Amount of Studentship
The basic stipend amount is presently (for the 2009-2010 academic year) HK$13,100 per month, subject to revision from time to time. There are at present 4 levels of stipend, ranging from HK$13,100 to HK$15,320 per month.
