Prof. Li was a Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO Australia before he joined the University of Hong Kong in 2000. Between 1997 and 2000, he led and managed CSIRO¡¦s research team into building ventilation and indoor environments. He holds/held guest/visiting professorship in Aalborg University (Denmark), Shanghai Jiaotong University, Hunan University, Dalian University of Science and Technology, Central South University and Xian University of Architecture and Technology.

His research interests are in the interface areas between indoor environments and thermo-fluid dynamics with a focus on ventilation. Current research topics include bioaerosols, engineering control of infectious diseases including SARS, natural ventilation and flow bifurcation, recently on city ventilation and heat islands.

Prof. Li serves as an associate editor of Indoor Air and an editorial board member in Energy and Buildings, Indoor and Built Environment, International Journal of Ventilation and Journal of the IEST (2003-2006).  He also serves as an Honorary Theme Editor for the Building Services Engineering theme in the UNESCO-Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS) (2006-). He received the HKU Outstanding Young Researcher Award in 2003 and became an ASHRAE Fellow in 2007.
