Update Certificate Courses in Internal Medicine

The Department of Medicine runs a series of module based update courses in internal medicine as part of the two-year part-time Postgraduate Diploma in Diagnosis and Therapeutics in Internal Medicine (PDipIntMed&Therapeutics) - Please refer to the PostDip homepage.

Method of Instruction
The program is delivered through modules of academic study covering major specialties in Internal Medicine utilizing whole class lectures, interactive workshops, case based presentations and discussions; prescribed self-learning reading and multimedia video; and practical clinical attachments; with English as the medium of instruction.

Admission Requirements
Applicants are expected to possess access to the internet and an adequate command of English and computing skills.

Applications for individual certificate courses are open to primary medical degree doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, as well as to MBBS undergraduate student (though material being presented will be at a postgraduate level).

Course Structure

  • Each module comprises 12 hours of lecture and workshop, to be completed in one weekend (Saturday: 2:30pm to 7:00pm & Sunday: 9:00am to 6:30pm).
  • a certificate of completion will be issued by the Department of Medicine.
    All dates will be announced as soon as they have been confirmed.

The HKUEMS accepts all credit card payment on-line, inclusive of those from overseas banks. Credit card information will be securely transmitted to "Joint Electronic Teller Services Ltd. (JETCO) Payment Gateway" provided by the Bank of East Asia for transaction authorization. NO credit card information will be retained by the event organizer.

Parking: Complimentary parking at the FMB is available for participants (except for HKU Medicine students). However, each participant may only be allowed one entry and exit per car per day.

Program Assessment
It is not mandatory for occasional students to take the one from five MCQ written assessments - passing mark 50%. It will be conducted together with the PostDip students at the end of each academic year.

Transfer to PostDip Program
It is not possible for students to transfer to the Post Dip program. Interested students will have to apply for enrollment in the Postgraduate Diploma as per normal procedure. Applicants may not apply for exemption of fees but may apply for exemption of study module/cert course provided that they have passed the written assessment of such module/cert course.

Professional Accreditation
Continuing Professional Education (CPE) accreditations points have been awarded by the following Colleges of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and institutions in Hong Kong. Fellows / members of each CPE awarding institution should sign the attendance sheets for each day that is listed.
