Joshua Chan is a prolific composer with diversified musical interests. From the ages of 10 to 20, his favourite music were Chinese instrumental and Western classical works. He studied violin with Thomas Wang and er-hu with Tong Leung-tak at the Hong Kong Conservatory of Music and actively participated in young orchestras of the Music Office. He also won two first prizes in composition in the Hong Kong Young Music Makers' Awards. From the ages of 20 to 30, His main composition interests were in the genres of contemporary, electronic and large orchestral writing. The highlights of the this period were the 4-year composition studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with the scholarship awarded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club. His main teachers included Graham Hair, Martin Wesley-Smith, Bozidar Kos, Anne Boyd, Doming Lam and Chris Babida. From the age of 30 onwards, Chan has been incorporating elements of various genres and styles (e.g., jazz, popular and media music) into his own writing. A significant proportion of his 150 compositions and arrangements has been performed or broadcast in Hong Kong and 16 countries over 400 times. International events in which Chan's work were featured include: UNESCO International Rostrum of Composers in Paris (1988, 1993, 2001); concert by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra during the Asian Composers' League Conference 1992; International Computer Music Conference 1993 in Tokyo; ISCM World Music Days (Germany 1995 & Hong Kong 2002); concert by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra in Tokyo (1998), Hong Kong Arts Festival (1984, 1994, 1998-2001), etc. Sixteen pieces of Chan's have been published on 10 compact discs of 7 different labels. His recent outputs include a full-length ballet orchestral score for the Hong Kong Ballet production Mulan; a one-act ballet Images of Mulan for the London Studio Centre掇 performances in 9 cities in UK; and a jazz/contemporary fusion piece Hong Kong Districts for ISCM 2002. Joshua Chan is as an Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong where he teaches electronic music and composition.

陳錦標生於1962年,是香港具備多元化寫作風格的多產作曲家。他早年主要隨汪酉三學習小提琴及湯良德學習二胡。在1978年至1983年期間陳錦標是香港青年交響樂團及香港青年中樂團成員,並於1981至1983年舉行的第一及第二屆香港青年音樂家大賽中樂作曲比賽中兩度贏得冠軍。在1983年完成香港音樂學院三年小提琴演奏文憑後於1984年獲香港賽馬會音樂基金四年獎學金到澳洲悉尼音樂學院攻讀作曲,於1988年獲頒全年最佳學生獎畢業。回港後在香港大學完成哲學博士學位(主修作曲),其間積極創作前衛音樂、電子音樂及大型管弦樂,並與多個音樂團體、劇團、電台、電視台、合唱團等合作。作品在多個國際場合中演出及在外國電台中廣播,其中較為突出的有:聯合國文教科學組織之國際作曲家論壇(1988,1993,2001巴黎)、亞洲作曲家同盟音樂節(1992威靈頓,紐西蘭交響樂團)、廣島交響樂團(1993廣島)、國際電腦音樂會議(1993東京)、國際現代音樂協會世界音樂日(1995德國,2002香港)、東京管弦樂團(1998東京)、香港藝術節(1984,1994,1998-2001)等。陳錦標先後隨格咸艾亞、馬田衛史密夫、波葛斯、梅安妮、林樂培及鮑比達等學習作曲。三十二歲後於香港大學音樂系任全職講師,除繼續積極創作外﹐陳氏更開始研究爵士音樂、流行音樂及媒體音樂,並積極融合各派優點於其作品中。陳錦標現有原創及改編作品150首,在香港及16個國家演出或廣播四百次以上。近期較為主要的創作是為香港芭蕾舞團長篇芭蕾舞劇《木蘭》創作的管弦音樂、為倫敦舞蹈中心英國九個城市巡迴演出而創作的芭蕾舞音樂《剪影》及為2002年國際現代音樂節創作的結合爵士與現代音樂的《香港區域》。陳錦標現為香港大學音樂系副教授、主要任教作曲及電子音樂。其16首作品已灌錄在專馬拿(美國)、雨果、奇樂、正東、香港作曲家聯會、香港電台第四台、及93國際電腦音樂會議等鐳射唱片上。陳錦標也兼任香港中樂團理事、香港作曲家聯會理事、香港考試及評審局音樂科委員等要職。
