Dr. C.W. Chan received the Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Hong Kong Polytechnic (now known as the Hong Kong Polytechnic University), and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Manchester, UK. Dr. Chan was working for Weir Pumps PLC, the National Engineering Laboratory, and Unilever Research Port Sunlight Laboratory before joining the University in 1983.

His current research interests include system identification, compensation for nonlinear actuators, fuzzy logic controllers and neural networks. Dr. Chan is a Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the Institute of Electrical Engineers, and an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications. He is currently a Council member of the Chinese Association of Automation and Regional Editor of the International Journal of Systems Science.
