The Scientific Committee welcomes the submission of abstracts on selected topics of the 5th Annual Conference of the International Society for the Prevention of Tobacco Induced Diseases as outlined in the Abstract Form.

Accepted abstracts will be published and distributed to all participants.

ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 30 June 2006

Categories for the abstract submission
You may select one of the following categories for your paper:
Genetic factors in tobacco induced disease
Molecular and cellular biology in the pathogenesis of tobacco-induced disease
Epidemiology and management of tobacco induced disease caused by active and passive smoking
Tobacco control interventions in the community
Policy, legislative and fiscal issues
Clinical management of tobacco dependency and smoking cessation

Authors of abstracts are requested to fill out the online submission form.
Authors who wish to submit more than one abstract should fill out a separate submission form for each abstract.
We prefer that abstracts are submitted through the website but, if this is not possible, they can be e-mailed or a digital version and hard copy can be posted to us. Please see the downloadable form for instructions.
HARD COPIES AND FAX COPIES OF ABSTRACTS UNACCOMPANIED BY A SOFT COPY WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
Each abstract should be typed single spaced in MSWord format in English using 12 points font of Times New Roman in not more than 250 words. Authors must type their initials and last name, but not degrees, titles. The author’s full name must be exactly the same in all abstract submission forms when more than one abstract are submitted.
Authors must arrange the text as follows:
a. Background and aim
b. Methods
c. Results
d. Conclusions
Authors must use standard abbreviations and place a special or unusual abbreviation in parentheses after the full word the first time it appears.
Simple table or graphs (in black ink) may be included.
Abstracts will be reproduced exactly as submitted.
The research sponsor should be listed at the end of the text. Please note that abstracts of work that has been sponsored by the Tobacco Industry will not be accepted (Executive Committee decision).
   
Selection Criteria
The selection of abstracts by the Scientific Committee will be based on the following aspects which will be assessed with equal weights:
Scientific rationale and clinical relevance of the objectives
Innovation and originality of the project
Appropriateness of the methodology, data analysis and conclusion
Clarity of presentation

Notification of abstract acceptance will be an ongoing process and notification should be given within 2-3 weeks from receipt of the abstract by the scientific committee.
