Introduction to Careers Education Programme

Career Planning is a lifelong process which includes developing key skills and positive attitude, having self-awareness, choosing a career field, getting a rewarding job, advancing in and possibly changing careers. To help facilitate your journey, a series of workshops and activities are organised to guide you step-by-step in the exploration and planning processes and to provide the strategies and skills necessary for your life-time career success and beyond.

Since we encourage all students to follow a simple but yet systematic career planning model, it is necessary to explain briefly on the onset how this works. For students who have little ideas about career planning, they can start from level one, then advance by a stage at a time. Students can progress at their own pace and repeat all or parts of the process any time as their values, interests, abilities, and the job market situation change.

Career Planning Stages

1 Building a Foundation:
Regardless of career clarity and goals, students are expected to have a good foundation of soft skills and a positive attitude.

2 Self Exploration:
Students identify their career interests.

3 Exploring and Researching:
To form more concrete opinions about what you would like to do, you need to explore and research into different opportunities that are open to you.

4 Deciding on Options:
In the ever changing world, you should always be flexible and keep your options open. Nevertheless, it is useful to narrow your alternatives to a few so that you can plan relevant actions to achieve your goals. (You are welcome to arranage an appointment to discuss your plan with a student adviser.)

5 Actions and Applications:
You take actions and make applications to gravitate towards specific areas of career interests. (watch out for course announcement from the Careers Education and Placement Centre)
