Abstract

ˇ@

The huge wave of globalisation and the rapid growth of China pose interesting challenges and opportunities for Hong Kong.  Against the background of the opening up of the Mainland in 1978 and Beijing taking on the Olympics challenge 30 years later in 2008, Mr Fong will share his perspectives from the different vantage points in his career on how he has seen the world change China over the past three decades and how he thinks China is going to change the world in the coming decades, as it grows into its role as a global citizen.

Before Mr Fong joined the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce as CEO, he was an Administrative Officer in the HKSAR Government.  Twice he represented Hong Kong overseas, as the Head of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Offices: in New York during the run-up period five years before 1997, and in Tokyo during the post-reunification period five years after 1997.

Please come and join us for this open dialogue where Mr Fong will discuss the implications of his prognosis for the young people of Hong Kong as they prepare themselves to face intensifying competition in the future, characterized by a rapidly globalizing world economy and a fast changing regional landscape.
