Executive Summary
UBC is delighted to develop and host the core course
on Global Citizenship as part of the Global Issues Certificate project sponsored
by Universitas 21. The project is a joint collaboration between the
The course is envisioned as one that will complement students’ specialized areas
of learning, and that will challenge students to consider what responsibility
they have – within their political, social, cultural and professional contexts
– to participate as active global citizens.
It comprises twelve weekly thematic modules, on
a WebCT course management platform, and will make use of WebCT communication
and collaboration tools to promote instructor-led student discussions, and
case-based learning.

Students will be required to participate in
weekly topical discussions with peers from different disciplines and
institutions, and complete a short weekly assignment. Assessment will be
continuous, of both discussion contributions and written work.
The course will run for 12 weeks in the 2005 Fall term.
