Francis KAN

Francis Kan is one of Hong Kong's most accomplished conductors. He studied the viola and conducting at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and at the Guildhall School of Music in London under David Takeno. As a pupil of Maestro Sergio Commissiona, he was appointed as a conducting intern of the Asian Youth Orchestra for its international tour in 1994. Kan won the International Competition for Young Conductors in Portugal in 1995 and since then, he has appeared as both conductor and viola soloist with several orchestras at home and abroad including the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, the Silvestri Chamber Orchestra of the Bucharest Philharmonic, the British Columbia Chamber Orchestra in Vancouver, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He is now the assistant conductor of Macau Orchestra. Francis Kan has been appointed as the principal conductor of the Union Philharmonic Orchestra, HKUSU since its foundation in January, 1999.
